Dear Youth Volleyball Parents,
It is
that time of the year, spring youth volleyball. We will again be joining the
Great Northwest Volleyball League. We
are excited about this program and to once again work with our 4th-8th
grade players. This is a great opportunity for our younger players to learn the
fundamentals, understand the game, and have fun with volleyball.
Currently we have two coaches lined
up, and are looking for two more. The pay would be in the form of gas gift
cards and would be a per tournament/per practice amount. Please fill out the
correct section on the attached form and return it by Tuesday, February 17th to the Elementary or Middle
School office or directly to Coach Melissa Smith. (3rd Grade Teacher)
High School players will be invited to volunteer as coaches with you.
This
year we would also like to create a spring league volleyball board. The four
coaches will be asked to be on the board, along with Coach Melissa Smith, but
we would also like two parents to be on the board. The board would meet once
before the registration meeting on March
3rd, once after the registration meeting, once during spring league, and
once after spring league is done. The board would be in charge of determining
the coach gas card pay, registration fee, tournament choices, and more. If this
is something that interests you, please fill out the correct section on the
attached form and return it to the Elementary or Middle School office or
directly to Coach Melissa Smith (3rd Grade Teacher) by Tuesday, February 17th. If
more than two parents return this form, we will randomly select two parents to
be on this board.
Lastly,
just so that we can get a sense of the number of players, please fill out the
interest section on the attached form and return it to the Elementary or Middle
School office or directly to Coach Melissa Smith (3rd Grade Teacher)
by Tuesday, February 17th.
This is not saying that you are for sure registering, but that you have
interest in registering. More information can be found on this spring league at
www.gnbl.org
and then clicking the Volleyball League tab.
Just some notes:
·
Practices would be most likely on Tuesday and
Thursday nights again. We are hoping to have them run from 6-7:30 p.m. Practices will start the week of March 16th.
·
We will attend three meets. Meets will most
likely be on three of these Saturdays:
April 11, 18, 25, and May 2.
·
We will host one meet for each team. This will
allow us to earn money back to refund some of the registration fee. Parents,
players, and coaches will be responsible for helping out at one of these meets.
·
The registration fee will fall somewhere between
$25 and last year’s $50.
·
Registration is set for March 10th at 6:30 p.m. in the High School commons. Any
players wanting to play in spring league MUST attend this meeting. If you have
questions about registration please contact Coach Smith at 715-635-2174 ext.
1224 or email her at smithm@spooner.k12.wi.us.
·
Just so you are aware – this league is not
through the Spooner School District, it is a league outside of the school. Coach
Melissa Smith is the high school varsity volleyball coach.
